Grand Bohemian + Dubsdread + Great Decor + Fun People = AWESOME WEDDING! This beautiful bride knew exactly what she wanted and that made for a fabulous wedding. A sweet detail was that she wanted to have him blind folded at the start of their First Look. As we were brainstorming before the big day, I thought it would be special to blindfold them both so that they could have a few moments to touch, smell and listen to each other. Those moments of senses I hope they will forever remember. Their emotional reveal was adorable! I feel like the sun shined a little brighter after that moment.. I am SO excited to release the blog of Donny and Laura’s Wedding! All of their DIY projects are truly an inspiration; it was a photographers dream! And any bride that wears TOMS as her wedding shoes is awesome in my book : )

It was so hard to narrow the photos down to the ones for this post. You’ll get a chance to see how creative they are, and not only that, they’re aspiring wedding photographers! It’s been a pleasure to see them blossom with their newly found passion. It’s the perfect path for them, and it’s truly noticeable in all the special details they included within their wedding day. Wedding Rehearsal Coverage

We LOVE going to the rehearsal the day before the wedding! It’s a great way to spend more time with the Bride and Groom as well as meet their close family and bridal party. The relationships we start forming then shine through on camera throughout the wedding. I believe it’s the comfortability level… and we’re pretty much always laughing and smiling, so I think that helps too ; ) It’s also beneficial, as we get to scope out the venue for places we would love to set up shots as well as learn the flow of the ceremony during the run through. As long as we aren’t booked for an event during the wedding rehearsal, we always try to be there. And when we photograph a destination wedding, it’s a given that we will capture the rehearsal, and all the other festivities within the itinerary. This will most likely be apart of our package once we move to Hawaii. We have really enjoyed our destination wedding experiences where we stay up to a week with the whole crowd of the Bride and Groom. Check out the coverage of Laura & Donny’s Rehearsal and dinner. I was so excited to check out the Coquelicot Estate Vineyards! The venue is home to the gorgeous barn and endless rows of grape-bearing vines. This post starts with creative DIY programs made by the Groom, the cutest barn kitten you’ll ever see and homemade cupcakes made by yours truly : ) And ends with the beautiful atmosphere where the reherasal dinner was held at the Coquelicot Tasting Room. This was very special to Laura & Donny, as they have had lots of weekend getaways, sharing special moments while indulging in their favorite wine and tasting new ones that the great Vineyards of Solvang have to offer.

Paint with Light into the New Year!

Happy Near Years! Tonight we have our little cousin over to celebrate New Years Eve. We’re going to drink some sparkling grape juice in champagne glasses at midnight (tradition from when I was growing up, thanks Mom!;), and to keep her awake until then I’m going to teach her how to Paint with Light!

This is for anyone wanting to get more creative with their camera. Especially if you’re entertaining little kids tonight! Set your camera up on a tripod or a steady surface so it doesn’t move once you take the photo. Get creative when choosing your light source; it can be as simple as a key-light. You can start this project as soon as it gets dark! So until then, search the internet to learn how to dial in all the settings based on your camera make.

I pulled a few personal photos from the past when we have played with light and other types of long exposures with lights to give you examples. Just remember, as long as you want to leave the shutter open, the longer it’s going to capture the light movement created. Have fun, and learn together. I hope this inspires! Kia and Sherry, or Kerry & Shia as their names have merged together in my vocabulary, are so incredible! We’ve seen them so many times since we first met a few months ago (because Persians have amazing parties for e v e r y t h i n g) and these two are always goofing off and laughing. Their destination wedding was no exception, especially with the awesome festivities every night! Robby and I were red in the face from laughing with Kia’s groomsmen, you’ll see a glimpse of it throughout the post. Enjoy the photos, dancing & love from their close family and friends that flew to Los Cabos to celebrate their wedding at the Grand Faro Resort. Big thanks for the flawless week of events to Maye Cortinas, the amazing coordinator for their wedding!
